The Great Hall and the Staircase
The foyer on the ground floor is itself a unitary work of artistic synthesis, of total art, where architecture, decorative art, applied art (design), painting and sculpture are self-evident. This space has an oriental effect due to the lights that penetrate through the yellow stained glass, respectively emanating from the suspended chandeliers in the middle of the domes. The golden glow of all parts of the space and the ornaments made according to the ideas of Körösfői-Kriesch Aladár (1863-1920) – at the time, a decorative painting professor at the Applied Arts School in Budapest, founder of the Gödöllő artists’ colony, contributed to the Oriental atmosphere.
To the upper levels, the stairs rise from the entrance corridors beside the two walls of the big showroom. And here dominates the green color, defining the chromatic world of the entrance hall, combined with the striped stripes with floral motif that fits the voids, the plain plains of the blue background. For the painting of spaces of a very lively chroma, Elek Falus, who decorated the Mirror Hall and the Small Hall, was also asked. They blended very well with the colorful windows representing historical portraits, made by Miksa Roth, then over 20 years old, the most important master of the stained glass art of the Hungarian Art Nouveau – portraits embedded in a symmetrical ornamental system.
